How number porting works

  1. Sign up and submit the port. In the portal, enter the numbers, your current carrier, account number, PIN if the carrier uses one, and the service address. Upload a recent bill; the losing carrier checks the details against it.
  2. We file with the losing carrier. The request goes to the carrier that holds the number. Rejections are almost always a mismatch in name, address or account number; we tell you what to correct and refile.
  3. Firm order commit date. The carrier confirms a date. Local ports usually take 3–10 business days from a clean submission, toll-free 5–10. Your numbers keep working with the old carrier until then.
  4. Cutover. On the date the number moves to IPComms and rings wherever you routed it. Set the route and E911 before the date so nothing changes for callers.

What you will need

  • Current carrier and account number

The company that bills you for the number today and the account number on that bill.

  • Account PIN, if any

Some carriers require a PIN or passcode to authorize a port. Wireless numbers always do.

  • Service address on file

The address the losing carrier has for the account; a mismatch is the most common rejection.

  • Authorized contact and a recent bill

Someone allowed to make changes on the account, and a bill from the last 30 days as proof.

Questions

How long does number porting take?
Local number ports usually complete in 3–10 business days from a clean submission; toll-free in 5–10. New numbers on your account work immediately, so you can move outbound calling before the port completes.
How much does number porting cost?
$5.00 per number, volume discounts for 100 or more. Ported numbers then cost the same $1.50 a month as new local numbers. There is no charge for a rejected and refiled port.
Will there be any downtime during porting?
No. The number stays with your current carrier until the confirmed date and then switches to IPComms; set its route and E911 in advance and callers notice nothing.
Can I port many numbers at once?
Yes. Submit them in one request per carrier account; for 100 or more numbers volume discounts apply and we schedule the cutover by site with you. See the bulk porting page for large moves.
What if my port is rejected?
The losing carrier rejects for mismatched details: name, address, account number or PIN. We tell you exactly what was rejected, you correct it in the portal, and we refile the same day.
